William J. “Beep” Primeau, 84, of Heritage Drive in Claremont, NH, died Thursday (March 9, 2017) at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, following a brief illness.
He was born in Bellows Falls, VT, on June 5, 1932, the son of Wallace J. and Katherine (Quinn) Primeau and had been a Claremont resident since 1973. “Beep” was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a call fireman for both the Bellows Falls Fire Department and the Claremont Fire Department. “Beep” was the first man from Bellows Falls to hike 50 miles at the time of President Kennedy’s physical fitness program, hiking from Hanover, NH to Bellows Falls, VT in 14 ½ hours. He had been employed as the steward at American Legion Post #29. He later worked for Holson-Burnes for 11 years. He then worked at Wal-Mart in Claremont, NH. He was the widow of Beverly (Tatro) Primeau who died on September 15, 2003.
Members of his family include two stepsons, Donald Pellerin, Mark Pellerin, several nieces and nephews as well as many friends that he had made over the years.
He was predeceased by a brother, Malcolm Primeau, four sisters, Katherine Aquistapace, Marjorie Kendall, Agnes Kendall and Rita Beam.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday (March 18) at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH with the Rev. Mr., Paul Boucher of St. Mary Parish, officiating. Committal with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10:00am until the time of services.
