CHARLESTOWN, NH – Local citizens gathered at The Sumner House Restaurant recently to learn about the new Charlestown Health Center. This 8,200-square-foot building on Ceda Road will be home to Charlestown Family Medicine, one of the nine community health center locations operated by Springfield Medical Care Systems (SMCS), which has outgrown its current location at 125 Main Street, Charlestown. The new space will increase health care services by adding an occupational health specialty, walk-in care and on-site x-ray services. There will also be expanded access to obstetrics and gynecology as well as behavioral health services.
Thanks to a $1 million grant from the federal government and a generous matching gift from Whelen Engineering, the project got off to a good start and construction will be completed by summer.
At the event, Albert St. Pierre, local business owner, praised the project and stressed the need for community support to ensure its success. Whelen’s John Olson told the group why he believed in the project and how it will be a valuable asset in the community.
The event raised awareness of the new facility and kicked off the campaign to raise the additional funds necessary to complete the project. Dr. Dan Caloras of Charlestown Family Medicine stated, “We need help from our grateful patients and donors to realize our vision of providing extraordinary care in this extraordinary new space!”
