Hamilton H. Webb, 90, of Charlestown, NH, died on Sunday morning, December 20, 2015, at Peaceful Harvest in Charlestown.
He was born on May 26, 1925, the son of Charles and Ethel (Ward) Webb. Hamilton attended Major Beal High School and graduated in the class of 1944. He served 9 years in the US Army Intelligence (ASA) in the US and Germany. He and his parents moved to Walpole, NH, 1956 where they owned and operated an 800 acre dairy farm. His brother William joined him in partnership in 1957. They operated the farm until 1968, when they gave up farming due to a fire. He then worked at Hicks Machine in Walpole and in 1970 he went to work at Joy Manufacturing Co. in the grinding and shipping departments. He also worked a short time at the New Jersey machine in Lebanon and retired in December of 1986.
He married Diana A. LaPlante on September 30, 1972; she died on December 5, 2001. Hamilton and Diana enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visiting all 50 states and six Canadian provinces. He was an amateur radio operator, licensed in 1963 and talked to Amateurs all over the world. He was one of the original organizers of the Claremont Senior Center and contributed many years to bring the center to what it is today. He was also a member of the local AARP Chapter 4344.
The family includes “his favorite girl”, Jo Ann Johnson of Charlestown, a stepson, Walter Smolnik and his wife, Jeannett of Weare; three grandchildren, Carric, Corey and Stacie; a brother, William Webb of Bradenton, FL and his family at Peaceful Harvest.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Pratt and two brothers, David Webb and Richard Webb. Funeral services will be held privately. Donations may be made in his memory to the Claremont Senior Center, 5 Acer Heights, Claremont, NH 03743.
