Emily M. Boccia, long time Claremont resident and businesswoman, died in peace with family at her side on Friday evening June 9, 2017, at the age of 100.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, and raised in New York City, she moved to Claremont in 1946 with her husband George. For many years she managed Boccia’s Fruit Store with her husband. She was a strong woman whose life was centered around her family. If asked, she would tell you that her joys in life were family, home, her flower gardens, walks with her granddaughter, and watching over the birds in her back yard. Her strength, will, and enthusiasm seemed boundless to those who watched her preparing favorite family Italian meals, gardening, exercising, and walking daily, well into her nineties. As age began to limit her, she was lovingly supported by her daughter, Maria. Of those she loved most dearly, George, Sr. and her youngest daughter, Rondy, died before her.
She is survived by her daughter Maria Boccia, her son and daughter-in-law George and Kathleen Boccia, granddaughter Emily Alice Boccia, Kathleen’s daughters Allison Champagne and Sara Swan-Blankenship, and many nieces and nephews.
As she requested, there are no visiting hours.
There will be a Catholic Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Claremont on Tuesday June 13, at 10 AM followed by a graveside gathering for family and close friends.
