Donald M. Underwood, Sr, 85, of Claremont, NH, died on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Elmwood Center, following a period of failing health.
He was born on February 6, 1931, in Highgate, VT, the son of Erwin and Estella (Longe) Underwood. Following the divorce of his parents, he was raised as well by his step father, Albert “Curly” Palardis. Donald served in the US Army. He was employed for various places including Claremont Paper Mill, Rene Construction, Dorr Woolen, and was also a Police Officer for a long period at Claremont Police Department. Donald enjoyed camping, sports, and racing. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was predeceased by his parents and his stepfather. He was also predeceased by his brother, Calvin Underwood, and a sister, Anna Wentzell.
Members of his surviving family include his wife of 63 years, Hilda (Converse) Underwood, one son, Donald Underwood, Jr., and his wife Debbie of Claremont, two daughters, Doreen Underwood of Claremont and Donna Bohn of Windsor, VT. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson, Amanda Viger, great grandchildren, Ashton Briere, Kailey Waterman, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside committal services will be held on Monday, October 17, at 11AM in Union Cemetery in Claremont, with the Rev. Priscilla Hull, officiating.
