Roland J. LaCasse, Sr., 89, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather of Tyler Street in Claremont, NH, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday (January 4, 2017) at his home following a period of failing health.
He was born in Claremont, NH, on February 17, 1927, the son of Joseph C. and Beatrice R. (Picard) LaCasse and had been a lifetime area resident. He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Stevens High School with any honorary diploma in 2001. Roland enlisted into the Navy in 1944. He served in the South Pacific until 1948. After his service to his country, he met Marilyn Greenleaf, the love of his life and they married September 16, 1950. She predeceased him on December 4, 2015. They raised five children. They were married for 65 years. He had been employed by Dartmouth Woolen Mill for 31 years as a weaver and later worked for Tambrands for 16 years as a mechanic. He will also be remembered for his devotion to his family as he was often was found helping family members. He had a compassion for the elderly and people in need. He had a special place in his heart for Boy’s Town, stemming from his own experiences as a child.
Members of his family include two sons, Thomas LaCasse, Claremont, NH; Peter LaCasse, Dallas, TX; two daughters, Cecelia Aiken and her husband, Leonard “Bud” Aiken, Claremont, NH; Gloria LaCasse-Leskiewicz and her husband, Edward, Claremont, NH; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, a brother, Raymond LaCasse, Manchester, NH; a sister, Theresa Brodeur, Boscawen, NH and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Roland J. LaCasse, Jr., a grandson, Scott LaCasse, three brothers, Joseph LaCasse and Armand LaCasse and Bernard LaCasse. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday (Jan. 11) at St. Mary’s Church, with the Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, pastor, officiating.
Committal will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH on Wednesday morning from 9:30 am until the funeral procession leaves for church.
