William Theo Corcoran, of 87 Fitch Reservoir Road in Claremont, NH, died Thursday (December 29, 2016) at his home following a three months battle with liver cancer.
He was born in Errol, NH, on August 31, 1929, the son of Martin J. Corcoran and Leah (Fanjoy) Corcoran. He received his education in schools in Errol, Milan, Dummer and Berlin NH and graduated from Berlin High School in the class of 1949. He worked for a short time in NY after graduation, returned to Berlin, NH, where he enlisted in the US Army in the fall of 1949. He did basic training at Fort Devens, MA, and then was assigned to Fort Monmouth, NJ, where he received training in radio repair. He served two years in Korea with the Signal Corp during the Korean war. He returned to the USA and was assigned to Fort Monmouth until discharged. He returned to Berlin and was employed by Brown Company, in the paper making industry, until 1962. William moved with his family to Claremont and worked for Joy Manufacturing Company until it closed and later he worked for other local companies.
Members of his family include his son Kenneth R. Corcoran and his wife, Lois (Moran) Corcoran, of Charlestown, NH, a granddaughter, Carolyn Russell and her husband Kurt, of Winter Haven, FL., and their children, Jenna Lynn Foster, Harmony Russell, Ilo Russell, and Ondine Russell; four brothers, Chester A. Corcoran, Berlin, NH, Mark F. Corcoran and his wife Christina of Berlin, NH, Norman J. Corcoran and his wife Violette of Apache Junction, AZ., James S. Corcoran and his wife Louise, of Starksboro, VT., five sisters, Charlotte C. Bolduc, of Waterville, ME., Frances I. Gallagher, and her husband Robert of Berlin NH, Priscilla A. Gorton and her husband Leonard of River Bend, NC., Jean Hall of Seattle, WA., Carol M. Kilmain and her husband Charles of West Roxbury, MA., two sisters-in-law, Janice L. Corcoran, Milan, NH and Patricia Gemmiti, and her daughter Catherine, in Proctor, VT, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was blessed with many dear friends, including Marge Rock and a best friend, Joe LaPointe, who worked with him during their time at Joy Manufacturing Company.
William was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann (Lawrence) Corcoran on May 23, 2004, following a long illness; his parents, his sister Helen L. Corcoran (2005), his brother Robert M. Corcoran (2008) and a brother-in-law, Danny Gemmiti.
Visiting hours will be held from 2 – 4 pm on Saturday (Jan. 14) at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 pm also on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Kilyk, officiating. Graveside committal services will be held later in the Spring in the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Claremont Senior Center, 5 Acer Heights, Claremont, NH 03743 or the Lake Sunapee, VNA/Hospice, 107 Newport Road, New London, NH 03257.
