Pearl N. Landry died in the early hours on Friday morning, March 25, 2022, just six days after celebrating her 80th birthday. In the summer of 2017, Pearl was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. For the next four and a half years Pearl, and her husband Bob, faced each challenge of her debilitating illness together with courage and grace. With heavy hearts, her family and close friends are grateful that her struggle is over.
Pearl was born in Weathersfield, VT, on March 19, 1942. She was one of four girls and the seventh of nine children to Clarence T. Morse and Rose Marie Irene Arel. They lived in Weathersfield Bow until Pearl was seven, then returned to the family farm in Jay, VT. Prior to her senior year the family moved to Claremont, NH, where Pearl completed her education at St. Mary’s Catholic High School, graduating in 1961. While the move to Claremont was a huge adjustment for the shy, country girl, she easily established several friendships that lasted a lifetime.
After graduating, Pearl worked for a short time in a factory in Claremont before starting her life-long career as a bookkeeper. She began at Hadley Industries on Charlestown Road in Claremont in 1962 and continued working as the bookkeeper for the Hadley family until the death of Dick Hadley. She went on to work for the Claremont School District. Pearl concluded her bookkeeping career at St. Pierre Sand and Gravel. On February 8, 1964, Pearl married Joseph Robert “Bob” Landry. They lived in Claremont in the apartment above the home of Matt and Gloria Rivard. The Rivard family became lifelong friends, renting to Bob and Pearl until they purchased a home off Maple Avenue. Bob and Pearl later moved to Tunbridge, VT, in 2002. Pearl worked at Westover Home for the Elderly and also did some private home care in and around the Tunbridge area. She and Bob loved the Tunbridge community, working at the Tunbridge World Fair, and taking part in the annual Tunbridge Variety Show. They later sold their home and moved to Ascutney to be closer to Pearl’s family.
For years Pearl and Bob were active parishioners of St. Mary’s Church in Claremont, and she was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Boy Scout volunteer. Pearl and Bob spent many hours volunteering in the concession stand at St. Mary’s basketball games and later at the Stevens High School Soccer games.
Pearl enjoyed sewing, was an exceptional cook, and she loved to bake. She was an extremely loyal friend and a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed family vacations at Long Pond and York Beach, ME, time spent with her siblings and family from “up north,” and road trips with just about anybody. Pearl cherished the special relationship she had with her nephew Kevin Duford, his wife Michelle, and niece Connie Ladd. However, nothing brought her more pleasure than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank Morse and Clovis Morse, and her sister, Doris Wright. Pearl leaves her husband, Joseph “Bob” Landry of Ascutney, VT, sons, Rich Landry and his wife Michelle of Thetford, VT, Edward Todd Landry and his wife Jenny of Vestal, NY, grandchildren Emily Phillips and her husband, Nic, Jeffrey Landry and his wife Angela, Mike Landry and his fiancee, AnnaRose Squillante, Gayle Landry, Olivia Landry, and Rebecca Landry, two great grandchildren, Olive, and Oscar, and two more on the way, sisters, Florence Dow of Claremont, Shirley Remick of Claremont, NH, brothers, William Morse and his wife Katherine of Dracut ,MA, Richard Morse and his wife “DeeDee” of Cornish, NH, Gordon Morse and his wife Shirley of Claremont, NH, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening, March 29th, from 6-8 PM at the Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church; burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Claremont, NH. The Landry family wishes to thank all those who visited Pearl over the past couple years, the Bayada Hospice Staff, especially Tina Clifton, and Dave Kenison from Cornerstone Care. Finally, a very special thank you to Kevin and Michelle Duford for their dedication to Pearl and her family.
