Albert C. Marro, 89, of Claremont, NH, died on July 22, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Claremont, NH, on April 26, 1932, the son of Carminie and Mary (Cillo) Marro.
Albie was a lifelong resident of Claremont, served in the New Hampshire National Guard, and was employed with Satzow Beef House,Joy Manufacturing for 28 years; and NC Marro Plumbing & Heating Supply Co.
He was a volunteer fireman for the Hose Company, Claremont Fire Department. In 2000, he retired as a Captain with 47 years of service when he suddenly realized that running away from burning buildings made more sense than running toward them….
Albie had a passion for gardening. He spent many hours tending his garden and took great pride in nurturing his tomatoes from seedlings to plants that would sometimes reach as high as six feet tall.
Albie enjoyed watching sports and was a faithful follower of all the New England teams, especially the Patriots. He also discovered traveling with his wife & friends and the pleasure of cruise ships, especially all you can eat buffets.
He had a great sense of humor and could tell a ‘whopper’ of a story. He enjoyed sharing stories with friends at D’Amantes Market, Boccias Fruit store, and Nick’s plumbing store. He could always put a smile on your face.
Albie was a tireless and selfless volunteer at Sullivan County Nutrition, the Earl Bourdon Center, Claremont Senior Center, and the Claremont Soup Kitchen. His favorite volunteering event, by far, was being “Santa Claus” for the many children and families of the community.
He received numerous Letters of Appreciation for volunteerism, the Silver Seal Citation from the NH Federation of Garden Clubs, and in 1998 he was the recipient of the Vaughan Award from the New Hampshire State Committee on Aging.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church where he was an usher. He assisted in organizing and working on many of the church events to include the Annual Sports Night, Friendship Party and Lawn Party.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Alberta (Sampson) Marro whom he married in June, 1960; a son, Andrew Marro and his wife, Kelly of Jacksonville, NC ; a daughter, Joann LaClair and her husband, Dale of Charlestown, NH; six grandchildren, Brittnee Marro, Alexa Ormsby and her husband Cory, Jacob Marro, Crystal LaClair and wife Ashley , Anthony LaClair, and Hunter LaClair; proud great grandfather of Kane, Ava, Tristan, Kira, and Giavanna; two sisters, Madeline Barbieri and Carmella Tenney ; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins; and his four-legged partner in crime, Molly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters, Anthony, Nick, Dominic, Charles, Joseph, Paul, Marion and Kathi (Marro) Moore.
Albie was a good, strong, proud, and generous man. He is loved and will be missed by many.
