Charlotte C. Bemis passed away on Sunday, July 18th, 2021, at the Jack Byrnes Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon NH after a brief illness.
She was born January 30, 1924, in Haverhill NH. She was the only child of Rev. Carroll Carter and Addie Smith-Carter. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Charlotte moved around quite a bit. Some of the most memorable locations they lived were Chichester and North Charlestown, NH. She graduated from Charlestown High School in 1942. It was in Charlestown that she met her husband of 50 years, Gordon Bemis. Charlotte worked as the Traffic Manager at Jones & Lamson in Springfield, VT, for 44 years. She was never one to sit still for long so after retiring she held jobs at JCPenney, working the jewelry counter, as well as AG Edwards. She was a member of the Charlestown Grange, The United Methodist Church of Claremont as well as the Charlestown Senior Center.
Charlotte had a thirst for knowledge and was always trying to learn new things, whether it was reading, watching TV or just general conversation with friends or family members. She loved sewing and baking and was the official “pie cutter” at many suppers at her church or the Senior Center. Every year she followed the Alaskan Iditarod Dog Sled race, so for her 90th birthday she was treated to a dog sled run in Vermont. She loved life, laughter, friends, good conversations but most of all family.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband Gordon Bemis. She is survived by Carroll and Angela Bemis of Pembroke NH, Jeffrey and Laura Bemis of Chesapeake VA, Grandchildren: Tyler Bemis, Morgan Bemis, Jacob Bemis, Chloe Bemis and Hilary Hudson. Great Grandchildren: Gage Winter, Greyson Bemis, Brady Bemis, and Elliott Healy.
