Marilyn DeValk, 94, of Claremont, NH, passed away November 12, 2020, at Summercrest in Newport, NH. She was born May 26, 1926, in Lawrence, MA, to Frank Godin and Alice (Gauvin) Godin. Marilyn moved to Claremont in 1958 and remained in Claremont for more than 60 years.Marilyn was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA, the class of 1944. She attended Bryant-Mcintosh Junior College before becoming employed by JH Horne & Sons also in Lawrence, MA. She remained with JH Horne for eight years and often recalled many fond memories of her time there.Marilyn was very active in the Claremont community. She served on several committees and had a long tenure with the Claremont Garden Club, serving as their president for a time. Marilyn was a devoted mother and grandmother and spent many hours cooking, planning, driving to and watching the many activities of her children and grandchildren. She was their most ardent and enthusiastic fan.Marilyn enjoyed many activities, with tennis being her favorite. She and her late husband, Connie, were avid tennis players and fans. They also spent time traveling and enjoyed spending the cooler New Hampshire months in Florida. However, her main love was her family and grandchildren, so they were never away for long.Marilyn was the beloved widow of the late Connie DeValk. She is survived by her children, Rick DeValk and his wife Sue of Unity, Rob DeValk and his wife Lisa of Acworth and Diana DeValk and her husband, John Nachilly of Durham, NH; her grandchildren Jason Leahy and his wife Wendy, Cassie Edwards and her husband Tyler, Sara DeValk and Tyler Nachilly; and her great grandson, Asher Edwards.The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Summercrest Senior Living in Newport for their loving care of Marilyn.A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, at 11:00 at West Claremont Burying Grounds. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no reception will follow at this time.
