Donald M. Swinyer, formerly of Claremont, NH, died November 26, 2019, in Titusville, FL.
He was born on August 2, 1930, in Claremont, the son of Max and Mary Swinyer.
Don graduated as an Honor Student from Stevens High School in 1948. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on an aircraft carrier on the Pacific Ocean.
After returning to Claremont he married the former Eleanor L. Leslie on April 12, 1952. They celebrated over 57 years until she died on February 28, 2010.
Don had entered a training program with a national finance company and became a branch manager. He left the finance company and went into the real estate business in 1960 with his own company known as Don’s Realty. He retired in 1990 after 30 years where he specialized in land sales.
During his years in real estate he served as President of the Sunapee Region Board of Realtors and as a Director and Co-Founder of the Greater Claremont Board of Realtors. He served on the Claremont Zoning Board, the Claremont Housing Authority and was elected as a Sullivan County Commissioner in 1980.
Don loved hunting and fishing and was able to do plenty of it in the New England states, most of Eastern Canada and Florida. The forest, lakes and rivers were like a ‘’second-home’’ to him.
Don is survived by his daughter Miriam Richards of Cornish, NH, and his son Gary Swinyer and his wife Dianne of Charlestown, NH.
A memorial service will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Claremont at a later date. In his memory, donations may be made to the Stevens High School Alumni Fund.
