Eugene “Gene” Wight, 86, of Enfield, CT, beloved husband of 40 years to Mary Lou (Gallant) Wight, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016.
Gene was born June 8, 1929, in Claremont, NH, the son of the late Burt and Irene (Fay) Wight. He grew up in Claremont, graduated from Stevens High School and still enjoyed reunions with his classmates. Gene owned and operated the popular Green Meadows Restaurant in Claremont for many years. He continued his career in the food service industry, employed by Trico Vendors and later retired from Geissler’s Supermarket in East Windsor after many years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Enfield and enjoyed attending daily Mass. Gene was an avid fan of UCONN Basketball and the Boston Red Sox. Gene most cherished the time spent with his family. He enjoyed being in the outdoors and took pride in his lawn and garden projects, especially Sadie’s Falls. A loving husband, father, and grandfather Gene will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his three daughters, Judith Quimby of FL, Gena Yelinek of MA, Vanessa Henry and her husband, Rick of MA; his stepchildren, Edward, Timothy and Mark McGuire and Marie Sciullo. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren; his brother, Arthur Wight of FL; a niece, nephews and many caring friends.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Tuesday May 31, 2016, from 9 am to 10:30 am at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home at 10:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
