On Friday, December 18, Valley Regional Hospital began the process of administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to their high-risk health workers and first responders. The Pfizer vaccine is the first approved by the CDC and provided under Emergency Use Authorization, with the Moderna vaccine soon to follow. “This virus has had such a profound, pervasive impact on so many lives, in our own community and worldwide” said Valley’s CEO Dr. Jocelyn Caple. “We’re very excited to finally be at a turning point in the nearly year-long fight against COVID.” The first phase will continue until all front line employees who want the vaccine are inoculated, followed later by moderate and low risk staff, said VRH.
