Christopher Thomas Calkins, 56, formerly of Claremont, NH, passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2021, at his home in Charlestown, NH.
He was born in Falmouth, MA, on September 8, 1964 the son of Samuel and Carol (Baker) Calkins.
Chris was a graduate of Stevens High School in the class of 1984.
He had wanted to be a firefighter his whole life. He was a member of the Claremont Fire Department for 29 years, starting out in the Hose Company and retiring in 2017 as a full-time firefighter.
He had also worked as an EMT-I for Golden Cross Ambulance, at Pepsi and Petrolane Gas Company.
He enjoyed listening to the scanner and keeping up with what was going on after his retirement.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Calkins of Claremont; his sister, Holly Wood of Claremont; his nephew, Jeffrey Wood and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Samuel W. Calkins Jr in 2001, and his uncle Tom Baker and his grandparents.
In loving memory of Chris, walk-through calling hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Monday, January 18th from 4 to 6PM.
A private burial will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery in Peterborough, NH.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the funeral home and Calkins family ask all attending the visitation to abide with all regulations and please wear a mask and use social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris’s memory to the Claremont Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund, 100 Broad Street, Claremont, NH 03743.
