Carolyn Joan (Rushwick) Tardiff LeVarn passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2022, after a long illness. She was born on November 30, 1937 in Brockton, MA, to Joseph and Lena (Fiaschetti) Rushwick. Carolyn was married to Henry “Vic” Tardiff on June 22, 1957. She and Vic parted ways and eventually she married George LeVarn on February 6, 1973. She was well known for the fantastic Italian meals she would prepare for her family and friends and was a most generous hostess. In addition, she was an avid traveler, enjoyed treasure hunting at thrift stores, flea markets and auctions, listening to the music of Elvis and Bob Marley and always loved going to the ocean. In the late 60’s, Carolyn was one of the first female managers for the Giant Store chain and traveled to many locations in order to train personnel for stores opening in NH, VT and MA.
As an entrepreneur, she opened and owned LeVarn’s Used Furniture in Claremont from 1978 through 1986. After selling her business, she worked for Ascutney Metal Products in Windsor, VT for more than 15 years before retiring. In 2012, Carolyn came out of retirement to start a new endeavor and opened Pleasant Street Furniture and Antiques in Claremont as a partner with her son, David, through 2014. She was a former treasurer of the Sullivan County Humane Society having a great love for animals, especially the dogs she adopted over the years. She was a very generous person who supported a variety of charitable organizations. There was a mutual love between Carolyn and her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by many.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Tardiff) Lyn Fleming; a son, David Tardiff and his wife Debbie; a sister, Patricia Johnson; her grandsons, Anthony (Tony) Lyn and his fiancée Melissa Zandieh; Erik Fiaschetti and his wife Julie; her granddaughters, Sara Willis and her husband Shane; and Jessica Tardiff; five great-grandchildren: Tzipporah Lyn, Brayden Maley, Gabriel Nations, Mason Zandieh and Jasmine Zandieh along with her niece, Michelle Belisle and nephews, Tony Belisle and his wife Suzy, and William Belisle and their respective families.
She was preceded in death by Vic Tardiff and their infant daughter, Laurie Ann.
Graveside services will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Claremont on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, Mount Ascutney Hospital & Health Center, Attn: Development Office or Sullivan County Health Care Activities Fund.
