Alfred R. Martell, aka “Dick” Martell, died on December 24, 2018, one day after his 83rd birthday. Dick was born in Claremont, NH, on December 23, 1935, to Raymond and Evelyn (Girard) Martell. He married Paula Perry on September 22, 1956; she predeceased him. He has three sisters: Joann Johnson of Charlestown, Donna DeBendictis of Wilmington, MA, and Doris Dechane of Meuthen, MA. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Raymond Martell; sister, Sue Webster; and daughter-in-law, Leann Martell.
His family includes his six children: Gisele Martell (Kevin), Joel Martell (Penny Doughty), Eric Martell, Brad Martell (Gloria), Todd Martell (Patty), and Alesia Silver (Michael); 16 grandchildren, James Zullo (Heather), Terri Higbee (Ryan), Jeremy Zullo (Rebecca), Lori Adamovich, Erica Osgood (David), Erin Jones (Chuck), Emelee Martell, Christy Martell, Nathan Martell, Joshua Martell (Dani), Jessica Webb (Robert II), Richard Harris (Sara), Leo Martin, Jr (Jennifer), Brian Martin (Jeni), Tabatha Van Horn (Rob), and Michael Silver (Chyloe); 21 great-grandsons; 20 great-granddaughters; 2 great great-granddaughters; multiple nieces and nephews.
He was known in the area for his welding talent. He worked for the City of Claremont Water Department, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Joy Manufacturing, and various other shops.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed bear hunting with his family and dogs; deer season was a time he enjoyed spending with his sons and grandsons.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 12th at 11:00 a.m. in St Mary’s Cemetery with Very Rev. Father Shawn Therrien VG officiating. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Broad Street in Claremont.
No flowers please; donations can be made to the local SPCA. The family wishes to thank the Mt. Ascutney Emergency Room Team, DHMC Neuro Team, and Mt. Ascutney Hospital.
