John Mussey Atwood, 79, of Indian Point Road in Croydon, NH, died Sunday (December 17, 2017) at his home following a period of failing health.
He was born in Claremont, NH, on July 9, 1938, the son of John Henry and Myrtle Sabra (Mussey) Atwood and had been a longtime Claremont resident. In 2000 John and his wife became summer residents at Rocky Bound Pond in Croydon, NH, before becoming permanent residents in 2004. John was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1962 to 1965. On September 26, 1993 he married the former Kathleen Fay. She predeceased him on August 13, 2016. He had been employed as a mechanical engineer in the machine tool industry. John was a member of the Hiram Lodge#9, F&AM in Claremont, NH, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason-Valleys of Concord & Nashua, Woodman Chapter #26, Order of the Eastern Star, Claremont, NH, lifetime senior member – Order of Demolay.
Members of his family include a daughter, Kathleen March, and her husband, James, Claremont, NH; two stepchildren, Lisa Rowell and her husband, Daniel, Addison, VT; James Howe, Lempster, NH; six grandchildren, Ryan March, Jenna March, Brandon Howe, Kate Howe, Aaron Rowell, Nathan Rowell, a great granddaughter, Ashlyn Howe, a sister Ann G. Atwood, Hanover, NH.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (December 27) at the Croydon Flat Congregational Church with the Rev. Donna Muise, pastor, officiating.
Committal services will be held in the spring in the Croydon East Village Cemetery.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Croydon Flat Congregational Church, 29 Croydon Turnpike, Croydon, NH 03773.
