It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gladys Violet (Scruton) LaClair announces her passing on May 31st, 2020 at the age of 95.
Gladys was born on May 16th, 1925, to Joseph Theron Scruton and Nellie Maud Nelson. She was one of seven children who all grew up in Plainfield, NH.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence E. LaClair, her daughter Brenda L. (LaClair) Champney and siblings Eleanor, Guy, Theron, Eva, Ralph and Shirley.
She is survived by her son, Gary E. LaClair, and her three grandchildren, Heather Benoit and her husband Rick, Jodie LaClair, and Scott LaClair and his wife Laura. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
As a young girl she worked at Goodyear in Windsor, VT. She left soon after getting married in 1946 to be a stay-at-home mom. She was librarian at the George H. Stowell Library in Cornish for several years and often shared stories and expressed her love of working with the children that visited. Later in life she worked and retired from Timken in Lebanon. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed the holidays and hosting large family gatherings.
She was a devoted member of the United Church of Cornish and loved her church family greatly. She enjoyed volunteering her time to support their mission and baking her famous pies for fundraisers.
We know this loss will be felt by the many lives she touched.
Due to the COVID virus, a small graveside service will be held at the Child’s Cemetery in Cornish.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cornish Elementary School Library, the George H. Stowell Library or the Cornish Rescue Squad.
The Stringer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
