Wayne R. Wilson, Sr., 86 passed peacefully on April 16, 2017.
He was born in Claremont, NH, on July 29, 1930 the son of Guy R.C. and Irene (Mason) Wilson and was a lifelong Claremont resident. He was a graduate of Stevens High School, Class of 1949. He was an avid sports fan and continued attending Cardinal contests well beyond his children’s graduation. Some of his greatest memories were of his football days playing under Coach Parker. Wayne enlisted in the Navy following high school and he proudly served on the USS Battleship Missouri. As he stated many times “The luckiest day of my life” was December 2, 1950 when he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara P. Wentzell. Together they were loving parents to Deborah K. Lemere, Kershaw, SC, Wayne Wilson, Jr., Barre, VT and Jane E. Comstock, Charlestown, NH. Wayne lived a strong work ethic and at times juggled several jobs to provide for his family. He retired from Jones & Lamson Machine Tool Company after 35 years. He was an active union member and an advocate for his employees when he became supervisor of the lens room. He will be remembered by his family as a kind-hearted, generous and loving father and grandfather, as well as a devoted husband, companion and protector. He was a member of Grace River Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, his son in law, Lovell Comstock, grandchildren, Randy (Susan) Root, Jr., Spencer Root, Scott Wilson, Kate (Andrew) Leclaire, Emily Comstock, Lucas Comstock, three great grandchildren, two brothers, Kay Wilson and Warren Wilson. He was predeceased by a grandson, Aaron Comstock, three brothers, Guy Wilson, Richard Wilson, David Wilson, three sisters, Irma Comey, Shirley Chretien and Carol Murray.
