Two Arrested for Voter Fraud In 2016 Sunapee School Board Election

SUNAPEE, NH—A lengthy investigation into allegations of fraud stemming from a falsified email prior to the March 2016 Sunapee School Board election resulted in officers from the Sunapee Police Department and the Manchester Police making two arrests yesterday, Sunapee Police Chief David Cahill revealed to WNTK this morning during the station’s Live and Local show. Joseph Furlong of Sunapee and Adam Gaw of Manchester, NH, were taken into custody yesterday and charged with Class A and Class B Misdemeanors involving several that fall under New Hampshire’s voting statutes. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office and the Sunapee Police Department spearheaded that investigation.
Cahill said during the interview that generally law enforcement is not involved with a lot of fraud cases; rather, those usually fall under the domain of the AG’s office. “We received a complaint of an email that allegedly had been altered and then resent during last year’s election,” Cahill said. As a result of an investigation by the Sunapee Police Department and the AG’s Office, “The court issued two arrest warrants in the beginning of this month of March,” said Cahill. The charges involve alleged forgery and false documents of names and endorsements, he said. An arraignment date of May 2 in Newport District Court has been set for Furlong and Gaw, and both were released on PR bail with the court date.
