Stella A. Granger, 96, passed away at Summercrest Assisted Living Facility in Newport, NH, on Tuesday (July 21, 2020).
She was born in Claremont, NH, on April 11, 1924, the daughter of George and Emeline (Chambers) Blish. Stella attended Claremont schools and work in Claremont at various positions. She married Leonard A. Granger on April 28, 1948. They lived in several communities near Claremont and in 1955 moved to Lebanon, NH. Stella worked as a housekeeper for a number of families for many years before becoming a matron at Hopkins Center in Hanover, NH. In 1980 she and Leonard retired and moved to Kenneth City, FL, where they spent many years enjoying the Floridian climate and casual lifestyle.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, Leonard; her brothers, George Blish, Jr., Kenneth Blish; and sisters, June Lambert, Dorothy Blish, daughter-in-law, Gail Granger.
She is survived by her sons, Leonard A. Granger, Decatur, IL; Richard A, Granger and his wife, Theresa Granger, Deerfield, NH; granddaughter Mel and grandsons, Cory and Christopher Granger as well as four great granddaughters, Ashley, Skylar, Summer and Paislee, brothers, Robert Blish, Claremont, NH; Clyde Blish, Iowa; sister, Beatrice Tebo, Claremont, NH and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
After relocating back to NH, she spent many enjoyable years at Summercrest Assisted Living Community. She enjoyed participating in many of the activities and collecting “coupons”.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Summercrest for their professional care and treating Stella with respect and dignity. We would also like to thank Lake Sunapee Region VNA-Hospice organization for their compassionate care. She will be remembered for her love of family, cooking and travel.
Funeral Services will be private for Stella’s family officiated by Rev. Eldon Simpson, pastor, First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery. A public walk through visitation will be held from 6 – 8 pm on Monday (July 27) at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the funeral home and Granger family ask all attending the visitation to abide with all regulations and please wear a mask and use social distancing.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Summercrest Assietd Living Facility, 169 Summer Street, Newport, NH 03773.
