NEWPORT, NH–An accident on the John Stark Highway in Newport sent several people to the hospital Sunday afternoon. According to Newport Fire Chief Wayne Conroy, his department was called to the scene of an accident that involved two motorcycles and a car. “We had a report of an accident on John Stark Highway just beyond the shopping plaza with motorcycles and a vehicle involved,” he said. Conroy said that there were two passengers on each of two motorcycles, with one person in the car. He said that upon arrival, Rescue 1 “had patients down in the road with severe injuries; a vehicle was up the road a little ways; it had drifted across the yellow line and struck a motorcycle head-on.” The second motorcycle then struck the first one. Conroy said the injuries were “severe” and that one patient was “DHARTed out.” He said the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening at this time. Golden Cross, New London Ambulance and all three of Newport’s ambulances responded to the scene. Those involved in the accident were reportedly from the southern part of the state.
