Priscilla “Pat” Scherwerts, 93, passed away on Thursday (November 23, 2017) surrounded by her family at Elm Wood Center at Claremont following a period of declining health.
She was born in Cl;aremont, NH, on August 16, 1924, the daughter of Harold E. and Mabel (Watso) Turner and was a lifelong Claremont resident. She attended Claremont schools and graduated from Stevens High School, Class of 1941. She excelled in sports and was the captain of the basketball team, played hockey and was a cheerleader. She then attended Margaret Pillsbury School of Nursing in Concord, NH, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1945. After training, she entered the Army Nurse Cadet Corp in New York City where she was the supervisor of the operating rooms. Since there was a shortage of nurses due to World War II, she returned to Claremont and began a 35 year career at Claremont General Hospital in various capacities. She was especially proud of publishing several articles in the American Journal of Nursing. She also spent the last 30 years working with women with addiction problems which was very rewarding to her and where she met many people who became lifelong friends. She always loved sports and was an avid tennis player, playing well into her eighties and loved playing golf as well.
She married Donald Michaud in 1945 and they shared 25 happy years together until his death in 1972. She then married Dan Scherwerts in 1978; he passed on in 2000.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Peter Lee, Claremont, NH; a sister, Kay Boddy, Farmington, NM, granddaughter, Ann-Marie Marchand, Nashua, NH; great granddaughters, Trena Metzger, Trish Geoghegan, great grandsons, Cameron Tattersall, Colin Tattersall, Keene, NH, sister-in-law, Sylvia Michaud and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her surrogate granddaughter, Kendra Gokey and so many more friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, a brother Harold Turner, Jr., her oldest daughter, Marny Roy and her husband, Norman Roy and her beloved granddaughter, Cheryl Tattersall.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH at 11:00 am on Wednesday (Nov. 29) with the Rev. Shawn M. Therrien, officiating.
Committal will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of services.
