Paul “Oby” Obymako, 88, passed peacefully on November 8, 2020 in the presence of his son, Gary.
Paul was born in Claremont, NH, on March 14, 1932, the eighth and youngest child of Afanas and Alexandria Obymako. He spent his youth making mischief and playing neighborhood sports, until losing the fingers on his right hand in a woodshop accident during high school. Despite this injury, he went on to become an accomplished woodworker, building and remodeling numerous homes in the Claremont area.
Paul married Marcelle (Marcy) LaPointe on July 18, 1953, and during their 63 years of marriage raised a family of their own. His children, Gary and Lori, fondly remember family summer weekends at Lake Sunapee—listening to the Red Sox on the radio and swimming out to the raft. His grandchildren remember his sense of humor and will always cherish the birthday song voicemails from their beloved Pepere. A lifelong New Hampshire resident, Paul was an avid hunter and tagged his last deer – a 4 point buck – at the age of 83.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Marcy; his siblings Mary Siwek, Olga Obymako, Hope Porter, Sophie Chandler, and Mike Obymako; and his grandson Tommy McCarthy. He is survived by his sisters Rose Fisher and Lillianne Lawrence; his children Gary (Cindy) Obymako and Lori (Tom) McCarthy; and his grandchildren Maggie, KC, Jill and Kevin McCarthy.
Due to the pandemic, there will be no services at this time. When it is safe to do so, we will have a celebration of Paul’s life.
The Stringer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
