Norman Harold Leavitt, 83, died Thursday (July 18, 2019) at the Elm Wood Center of Claremont following a period of failing health.
He was born in Lincoln, ME, on June 22nd, 1936, the son of Richard and Rose (Murchison) Leavitt. He graduated in 1954 from Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln and attended Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, ME. Norman was a 50-year- member of the Masons and Shriners. Norman served with the US Air Force as an Air Policeman during the Korean Conflict. Norman loved sports and enjoyed watching his kids throughout their athletic endeavors. Norman also loved watching his grandchildren play sports. He loved the outdoors from every aspect hunting, fishing & relaxing by the campfire. He loved the fishing trips with his son Scott and grandsons Ben, Andrew, Matt, Kyle and all the rest of the Canadian crew that went. Norman was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time at the Claremont Country Club with all his friends. Norman worked for Lincoln Pulp and Paper for 17 years. He worked in various roles in the tissue manufacturing industry after LP & P. Norman worked in his later years as a consultant in the tissue industry, traveling around the US and Canada doing this work. Norman worked for 5-plus years at Coy paper in Claremont, NH, a mill that was started in the 1880’s; it was a three-machine operation manufacturing specialty paper. He always talked of this mill being the one job he loved the most in his working career. It was near and dear to his heart.
Predeceased by his wife Sharon (Buck) Leavitt and a daughter, Shaun Campbell. His daughter, Andrea Jenkins, passed away three days after Norman’s death.
He is survived by a son, Scott Leavitt, and wife, Cherie Leavitt. Norman leaves behind six grandsons, Matt Greenwood; Ben Leavitt; Andrew Campbell; Kyle Campbell; Chris Jenkins; Brian Jenkins; one granddaughter, Kori Russo and numerous great grandchildren and a sister Wanda Leavitt.
Norman was predeceased by his siblings Richard, Melvin, Hazel and Wilma.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside committal service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
