Norman B. Glazier, 88, of Charlestown, NH, passed away on September 1, 2020, at the VAMC in White River Junction, VT.
He was born in Leverett, MA, on November 29, 1931, the son of Lester and Bessy (Whittemore) Glazier. He was the oldest of four.
Norm graduated from Towle High School in 1949. He then joined the Navy in 1951 where he was a radioman aboard the aircraft carrier, Layte.
After the service he came home to Newport where he worked for A&P and then First National in Newport and Claremont as a meat cutter. He met Elaine Titus at work, and they were married in the Congregational Church in Newport in 1959.
They bought a meat market in Newport which they operated for 11 years. When the influx of larger grocery chains began to cut into their business, they sold it. He went to work for Rugers in the Mini-14 Dept., where he worked for 16 years. He was also a volunteer fireman for 17 years. He taught Sunday School for 7th and 8th graders and was a Deacon for many years.
In 1986, Elaine and Norm moved to Twin Mountain where they purchased Carrol Motel and Cottages. When they retired from the hospitality business, they moved to Charlestown and a bought a lot from Beaudry on Hillview Circle.
They joined the Congregational Church in 2002. He was a member of the VFW where he used to call bingo. He was a Patriots, Red Sox and Alabama Tide fan. He and Elaine played cribbage and enjoyed gardening.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Elaine (Titus) Glazier, a son, Norman “Skip” Glazier, a daughter, Beth Ash and her husband, Jim, daughter-in-law, Vivian Glazier; four grandchildren, Amy Ash (Josh), Shannon Ash (Mike), Nicole Ash (Chris) and Nathan Glazier; four great grandchildren, Caleb Ash, Lexis Ferland, Jaxon Zacks and Jakob Zacks; a brother, Philip Glazier and his wife, Joyce (Newell) ; a sister, Marilyn “Sue” Baker and her husband, Stan; a beloved cat, Tigger and dog, Noel.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Lester Earnest Glazier and a sister, Ruth Ann Gardner.
A memorial service will be held at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel, Main Street in Charlestown on Saturday, September 5th at 2PM with Donna Leslie officiating.
