Martha Ellen (Lockerby) Motes, formerly of Charlestown, NH, where she lived for 30 plus years, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, in Cartersville, GA, where she had resided for the last several years. Martha was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Bertha Lockerby, and her husband James H. Motes.
She is survived by her sisters Anita Wilbur of Grafton, VT and Elizabeth Armstrong of Cambridgeport, VT. Also survived by daughters Marta Smith of Charlestown, NH, Bonnie Kingsley of Cartersville, GA, and Cathy Brooks of Rutland, VT. She leaves behind grandchildren: Lyle Smith, Jeremy Smith, Shaun Smith and wife Heather Smith all of Charlestown, NH, Colin Smith and wife Lindi of Quakerstown, PA, Luke Kingsley and Sabrina Kingsley of Cartersville, GA, Josh Brooks and Nathan Brooks of Virginia and Caitlin Brooks of Iowa, and several great-grandchildren- Ashlynn, Emily and Lucian Smith of Charlestown, NH, and Autumn Wurzer of Quakerstown, PA. Martha is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many grand-nieces and nephews.
Born October 13, 1929, Martha taught for 35 years at Alstead Primary School, and in her leisure time and after retirement she enjoyed her garden, spending time with family and travel.
A graveside service at the Rockingham Meetinghouse cemetery in Rockingham, VT, was held on Monday, August 28.
