Marilyn E. Hood passed away peacefully on February 15, 2019, after a period of failing health at Cedar Hill Health Care Center, Windsor, VT. She was born August 7, 1932, in Unity to George and Juliet Slack.
Marilyn married the love of her life, Elwin R. Hood on March 21, 1954. Marilyn spent most of her life in Claremont, NH, with her husband Elwin, raising their three children. Marilyn was house wife, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; taking pride in all of these roles throughout her life. She loved working in her flower gardens, tending them with great care, producing beautiful flowers every year. Marilyn often enjoyed talking long hikes with Elwin on their property in Claremont. Marilyn also doted on many cats over the years. She believed a home was not complete unless there was a cat in it. The cats were Marilyn and Elwin’s other children.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Elwin Hood, her three children, her five grandchildren and nine great grand- children: Marilyn and Elwin’s oldest son Ray Hood of Fitzwilliam, NH, his son Ben Hood of Keene, NH, and Ben’s son Jacob Hood of Perkinsville, VT; Marilyn and Elwin’s second son Steven Hood and his wife Roberta (Robbin) Hood of Claremont, NH, their daughter Crystal Starkey, her husband Robert Starkey Jr., their sons Robert Starkey III and Tyrese Starkey, all of Claremont, NH, and Steven and Roberta’s second daughter Heidi Hood of Claremont, NH. Marilyn and Elwin’s daughter Linda Hood and her significant other John Ross of Walpole, NH, Linda’s son Ryan Gay, his daughters Aiyonna Gay, Laurel Gay and Briar all of Perkinsville, VT; Linda’s second son Matthew Gay and his sons Cayden Gay, Carter Gay and daughter Chloe Gay all of Saxtons River VT. Marilyn is also survived by a sister June Fleury of Claremont, NH, a Brother-In-Law Carl Hood and his wife Regina Hood of Perkinsville, VT, a Sister-In-Law Emily Hood of Woodstock,VT and a Sister-In-Law Sandra Miller of West Unity, NH. Lastly, Marilyn is survived by many relatives in the Slack and Hood families.
Marilyn was predeceased by many siblings, and one grandson, Linda Hood’s first son, Travis Gay.
Marilyn’s ashes will be interred at the Union Cemetery also known as West Claremont Burial Grounds, Birmingham Section, in Claremont, NH, on June 22, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter.
The Stringer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
