CLAREMONT, NH–It has been learned tonight that Rev. George Majka of St. Joseph Church on Elm Street drowned last week while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. According to Rev. Shawn Therrien of St. Mary Parish, the American Embassy in the Dominican Republican called the parish office at St. Joe’s and left a message. A parishioner checking the messages contacted Therrien to tell him the sad news. Therrien said that he notified the bishop and is continuing to work with the embassy to complete paperwork and to make arrangements to have Majka’s body returned to the US. He was 72.
