Lena C. Stebbins, 100, of Summerfield, FL, and formerly of Cornish, NH, died March 13, 2021, in Florida.
She was born in Cornish Flat, NH, on April 17, 1920, the daughter of Junius W. and Gertrude (Westgate) Cole. She resided in Florida for the past 15 years and previously lived in Tilton, NH, for eight years in the late 90’s; she lived in Meriden, NH, on N. Main Street for 50 years.
She retired from Kimball Union Academy in 1980 where she worked as the Secretary to the Treasurer and general bookkeeper for 22 years. She previously worked at Holsteins and after that with a cap and gown company.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meriden, the Meriden Home Economics’ Club and the Cornish Garden Club.
She was the widow of George E. Stebbins Sr, whom she married on May 10, 1942; he died June 7, 2003.
The surviving family includes two sons, George E. Stebbins, Jr. and his wife, Judith of Summerfield, FL; and Richard C. Stebbins and his wife, Teresa, of Grand Rapids, OH; five grandchildren, Christopher and Wendy Johnson, Ashley Student and her husband, Richard, Leah Hill and her husband, Donald, Ian Stebbins and his wife, Jennifer and Cole Stebbins; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Kendall, Haylie, Jackson, Jazmin, Elliana and Jenna; one niece, Judy Taylor and her husband Kenneth.
She was predeceased by one brother, Donald W. Cole in 1978.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 9th at 2PM in the Cole family lot at the Child Cemetery in Cornish with Rev. Harold “Dewy” Jones officiating.
The family suggests that donations may be made to the Meriden First Baptist Church, the Meriden Fire Dept. or the Charity of one’s choice.
The Stringer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
