Leland “Bub” E. Raymond, Sr., 84, of Claremont, NH, died peacefully at home on Wednesday evening January 11, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born in Rochester, VT, on June 12, 1932, the son of Harry and Elinor (Curtis) Raymond. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 through 1955, and was stationed in Korea from 1951 to 1952.
Upon his discharge, Bub held various jobs in telecommunications, construction, and Maple Lanes Bowling Alley, retiring from CONTEL/GTE in 1992. He was an avid outdoorsman with a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing, and was very proud of his involvement in establishing Youth Hunting Day in the state of New Hampshire. One of his favorite places is the family hunting camp in Stockbridge, Vermont.
He married Florence Whitcomb on July 5, 1953 and they enjoyed nearly 60 years together.
Survivors include his children, Leland E. Raymond Jr, and his wife Vicki H, Keith E. Raymond and his wife Alison, Gary L. Raymond and his wife Vicki C, Tamara R. Herrmann and her husband Ed, all of Claremont, and Michelle R. Desbiens and her husband Allen of Concord, NH, a brother Leroy (Hotdog) Raymond of Rochester, VT, ten grandchildren, Scott Raymond, Staci Avery, Shannon Mathieu, Susan Kangas, Capt. Tyler Raymond, DO., Matthew Steele, Jonas Steele, Audrey Desbiens, John Desbiens, and Joshua Herrmann, seven great grandchildren, River Mathieu, Lucas Mathieu, Hayley Avery, Sienna Kangas, Grayer Kangas, Fallon Lavertue, and Stella Lavertue. Survivors also include many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence, his sister Loretta Sleath and his brother Harry Raymond.
The family would like to thank his team of compassionate caregivers: Sandy LaPointe, the CarePro team, and VNH VNA & Hospice.
Family and friends may call at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont NH on Sunday afternoon, January 15th, from 1 to 4PM. Services will be held immediately following the calling hours at 4PM.
Burial will be held at a later date in Rochester, VT.
