Kathleen G. “Kay” Bartley, 87, of Claremont, NH, passed away at Valley Regional Hospital on Thursday (December 29, 2016).
She was born in Gardner, MA, on November 9, 1929. By the age of four she was orphaned and consequently became a ward of the state. She spent several years in foster care in the Keene and Rindge area. At age 16 she was released by the state and found employment with New England Telephone Co. In her early 20s she met her future husband, Aurel K. “Bud” Bartley while working part time at Goodnow’s Department Store in Keene. They married on September 8, 1949. Kay was a people person and very much enjoyed working with the public, most notably at Grand Union and Fay’s Drugs in Claremont.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son, Patrick Bartley and his wife, April, Unity, NH; her daughter, Paula Bergeron, Cornish, NH; grandchildren, Kaitlin Mekus, Newport, NH; Meghan Bergeron and Logan Bergeron, Boston, MA; great grandchildren, Finnley and Reid Mekus, Newport, NH.
She was predeceased by her husband, “Bud” in 1991, her sister, Viola, in 2012 and her son, Kevin, in 2014.
There will be no visiting hours.
Graveside committal services will be held later in the spring in Mt. View Cemetery.
