Harry William Ryan, 91, went into the arms of our Lord on September 21, 2021, at the Villages at Cedar Hill in Windsor, VT.
Harry was born in Claremont, NH, on February 3, 1930, the second son of Fred and Marion (Horton) Ryan. He was educated in Claremont schools. On October 2, 1948 he married Claire Ferland in St. Mary Church in Claremont. Claire predeceased him on December 9, 2020. They had 72 years together. After her passing his greatest wish was to be with her. His wish has been fulfilled.
Harry worked many different jobs until he took a position in the Claremont Fire Department. He had no fear of heights and climbed many tall poles installing television antennas and the alarm system for the Fire Department. After twenty years in the Fire Dept. Harry retired and continued his construction business. He built many homes and remodeled numerous others. He was a jack of all trades, electrical, plumbing and building.
Harry made countless friends. His big personality, sense of humor, and quick wit lit up the world around him wherever he went. If strangers crossed his path, they quickly became friends. He could lovingly give everyone he knew a hard time with a twinkle in his eye.
In 2003 Harry and Claire left Claremont and moved into a new house in Charlestown and lived there until moving to The Villages at Cedar Hill in September of 2018. Dad surprised us when he began planting flowers and was so proud of his gardens. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds.
Harry and Claire loved to travel and saw almost all of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They traveled to Ireland, Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands and they were good travel companions with whomever they traveled.
He was a wonderful father and grandfather and is survived by his daughter, Linda Ryan Brown and her husband, Earl of Murrells Inlet, SC and son, William F. Ryan and his wife, Cheryl of Claremont. He is also survived by three grandsons, Jeffrey E. Brown and Sue of Ellington, CT, Kipp W. Ryan and Tammy of Claremont, and Timothy T. Ryan and Stacey also of Claremont and four great grandchildren, Reese, Kaeden, Carter, and Natalie. A sister-in-law, and 3 brothers-in-law along with numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his beloved wife, Claire, Harry was predeceased by his parents and three siblings, William Ryan, Roger Ryan and Dorothy Luce.
The family will receive visitors at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street, Claremont from 9:30 to 10:30 on Thursday, September 30th. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 conducted by the Rev. Shawn Therrien, Pastor at St. Mary Church, 32 Pearl Street, Claremont. Burial will follow at Hope Hill Cemetery on North Charlestown, NH
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Villages at Cedar Hill for the wonderful care they gave to both of our parents. Words cannot express our gratitude.
