Grace M. Hamel, 98, formerly of Hillside Terrace, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday (August 14, 2018) surrounded by her loving family.
Grace was born in Sanford, ME, on August 7, 1920, the daughter of Louis and Georgianna (Ring) Hamel and had been a longtime Claremont resident. She had been employed at Desnoyer’s Variety Store and later became employed as a sales clerk at Aubuchon Hardware Store until her retirement in August of 1985.
Members of her family include a son, John A. Hamel and his wife, Debra, Claremont, NH; a daughter, Shirley Ann McNutt and her friend, Richard Smead, Weathersfield-Bow, VT; two grandchildren, John C. Prouty, Sr. Charlestown, NH; Sheri Hess and her husband, Mark, Quincy, MA; a step grandson, Joe Baker, Newport, NH; two great grandchildren, John C. Prouty, Jr. and Jeffrey Prouty both of TN; two great great grandchildren, John C. Prouty III, Brentley B. Prouty both of TN; and a brother, Everett Plant and his wife, Shirley, GA; a sister Marion Shaw, Claremont, NH.
She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Emil LaFont, a great grandson, Tyler Howard, two brothers, James Hamel, Joseph Plant, 2 sisters Pauline Canney, Hazel Cote and a half-sister, Nineta Fleury.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday (Aug. 17) at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH with the Rev. Arockia Antony, officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm.
