George (Sonny) Bowen Bashaw Jr. 83, formerly of Charlestown, NH, passed away at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport, NH, August 13, 2017. George was born November 24, 1933. He was the son of the late George Bowen Bashaw Sr. and Louie Maria (Olden) Robbins.
At a young age George taught himself to play guitar and, along with singing, it became his favorite past time. Although he could not read music he became an avid guitarist, later forming a band called “The Echoes”. Performing locally for many years, they covered such artists as The Ventures and Elvis Presley, his two favorites.
George continued to play and sing throughout his life. In later years he and other musicians would entertain friends, family and neighbors at parties at his home in Charlestown, NH and at Getaway Mountain Campground in Ascutney, VT where he camped with his late wife for many summers.
In his younger years George worked for Quaker Oats and later became a meat cutter at IGA in Claremont, NH. During hunting season George would butcher deer for local hunters in his garage and meat room at his home.
In addition to playing guitar George was a motor cycle enthusiast, Triumph to be precise.
He enjoyed cars; his white 1969 Grand Prix V8 being one of his most prized possessions. He could often be seen snowmobiling in the winter, attending the races at Claremont Speedway or camping in the summer, and working in his garage year round.
George always loved Moxie and in his last 3 years developed an addiction to Oreo cookies.
George was predeceased by his parents, his eldest daughter Cindy Lee (Bashaw) Bates, his wife Patricia A. (Gray) Bashaw and his beloved pug, Molly.
Surviving family members are his daughters, Robin R. (Bashaw) Walston, her husband Ray and their two children, Mia and Chad, of Stratham, NH, and Carla M. Bashaw of South Berwick, ME.
A graveside service will be held for both George and his late wife Pat at Pinecrest Cemetery, Jeff Drive, Charlestown, NH, Wednesday, August 23rd at 11AM.
