The New Hampshire State Police-Troop C has released the following press release regarding a fatal accident on Route 12 in Charlestown this afternoon: On Monday, September 19, at approximately 4:00 P.M., the Charlestown Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police, Troop C, responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a bicyclist on Route 12 near the intersection of Route 12A in Charlestown. The preliminary investigation determined that the bicyclist, identified as Lance Torrey, age 50, of Charlestown, was traveling north on Route 12 in the northbound breakdown lane when for unknown reasons he veered into the northbound travel lane into the path of a northbound Acura Integra which struck him. The Acura was driven by Jeremiah Lawrence, age 23, of Claremont. Torrey was transported to the Springfield Hospital in Springfield, VT, where he was pronounced deceased. Lawrence was not injured. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this collision. The NH State Police are handling the investigation and were assisted on scene by members of the Charlestown Police Department and the Charlestown Fire and Rescue Departments. Route 12 was closed and traffic diverted in the area for approximately four hours while the scene was documented. The collision remains under investigation; however, it does not appear that any criminal charges will be filed.
