Craig Michael Lawler, age 74, died on Fri., Nov. 17, in his winter home in N. Fort Myers, Fla. He was born in Oak Park, Ill., on July 31, 1943, son of Howard and Elaine (Kuehl) Lawler. He grew up and attended schools in Downers Grove, Ill.
On May 1, 1963, he married Karen Clineff in Hinsdale, Ill. She died in Jan. 1987.
He had studied mechanical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and was employed by International Harvester, before moving to Walpole in 1972 and then to Acworth shortly after. He held several patents awarded while he worked for IH.
After moving east he was head of the service department at John Deere dealer R.N. Johnson in Walpole. He serviced farm equipment, including tractors he had designed for IH, within an approximately 100-mile radius, occasionally going as far as Martha’s Vineyard. He had been a member of The Acworth Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years.
He married Carolyn Jerard in the United Church of Acworth on May 5, 1990.
He loved to golf and had been a member of Hooper’s Golf Club in Walpole, and Herons Glen Golf and Country Club in N. Fort Myers.
Besides his wife, Carolyn Jerard, he is survived by two sons, Scott and wife Jandee (Rock) of New Durham and Ryan and wife Jessica (Reed) of Perkinsville, Vt.; two grandchildren, Owen Michael and Chloe Lydia of Perkinsville; a stepdaughter, Heather Habich of Warren, Vt.; a stepgrandson, Jon Habich of Cambridge, N.Y.; three former sisters-in-law, Pam Clineff of Johnson, Vt., Kindra Clineff and Jody Hall, both of Topsfield, Mass.; three brothers-in-law, Albert Jerard of Spofford, Robert Jerard of Durham, and Stephen Jerard of Grapevine, Tex.; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Kenny of East Burke, Vt., and Deborah Jerard of Middlesex, Vt.
Besides his first wife, he was predeceased by his oldest son, Clint, in 1974.
Funeral services will be held at the United Church of Acworth on Sat., Dec. 9, at 2 p.m.
