CLAREMONT, NH–The Claremont Police Department has released the following details regarding a fatal vehicular accident in the City.
On Sunday, June 9, at approximately 11:30 a.m, Claremont Police Officer James Morine was on routine patrol on Route 120 near the Elmwood Center in Claremont when he encountered a motor vehicle collision involving an automobile and a motorcycle. Officer Morine rendered medical aid with the assistance of an off-duty Claremont Police Officer and an off-duty Sullivan County Sheriff.
According to the report, “Initial investigation indicates that the automobile, a 2007 Toyota RAV4, was traveling southbound on Route 120 being operated by Katharine Sprague, 24, Claremont, NH. The motorcycle, a 2013 Harley Davidson, was traveling northbound on Route 120, being operated by Wayne Newell, 64, Claremont, NH.
According to Capt. Stephen Lee in the statement, “The on-scene investigation revealed that Sprague was making a left turn into a driveway, when her vehicle collided with Newell’s motorcycle in the northbound travel lane. Newell sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported by Golden Cross Ambulance to Valley Regional Hospital before being transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center by DHART helicopter. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Dartmouth Hitchcock medical staff. Sprague sustained minor injuries in the collision and was transported by Golden Cross Ambulance to Valley Regional Hospital. She was later released.”
Lee said that “the cause of this collision is under investigation at this time. When the investigation is completed, it will be reviewed by the Sullivan County Attorney to determine if criminal charges are appropriate.
