The Claremont City Council voted Wednesday night not to move forward on the proposed sculpture project for the bullpen in Opera House Square. The vote was unanimous; Councilor John Simonds was not present but submitted a written statement sharing his opposition.
Sculptor Ernest Montenegro said he chose that spot knowing full well that it “was a lightning rod.” Several councilors said they took to heart concerns expressed by interim DPW Director Scott Sweet about the infrastructure beneath the bullpen as well as other issues.
