CLAREMONT, NH–Although only 9% of registered voters made it to the polls Tuesday during a heavy snowstorm, all the warrant articles for the school district passed. The charter amendments also passed, including one requiring the director of DPW and the fire and police chiefs live within 15 minutes travel time from their respective City offices. The issue arose as a result of the interim director living on the Claremont/Cornish line and a previous requirement that the DPW director live in town, a requirement that was in conflict with state law.
Rebecca Zullo beat out Mike Cirre for the 1-year seat on the school board, vacated by Brent Ferland; Frank Sprague was re-elected to the board while Michael Petrin beat out several other candidates, including incumbent Alex Herzog, for the other 3-year seat.
Voters approved the main operating budget, 443-173, of $34,748,006; also approved was an agreement with the paraprofessionals, the maintenance & custodial agreement, the secretaries agreement and funding for security upgrades and roofing repairs for the SRVTC.
Nine percent of registered voters went to the polls on Tuesday, compared with 13% last year.
