Charles Daniel Banta, Jr. (Chuck), 60, died at home in Claremont, NH, on Monday, July 31, 2017.
He was born on October 25, 1956
in Fort Dix, NJ to Charles Banta, Sr. and Ruth Mack. He attended school in Milford, CT, where he grew up. He is survived by his wife Barbara, Married Sept 2, 2007, step-daughter Rachel Gaidhar and her husband Rahim of Victoria, B.C.; four step-sons, David Noll and his wife, Lindsey, Alaska, Jacob Noll and his wife, Hannah, Wisconsin; Jared Noll, Alaska, Robert Noll, Unity, NH. He happily became “Grandpa Chuck” to Barb’s 14 grandchildren, visiting in Unity and travelling to Alaska and Wisconsin several times. He enjoyed chasing them around with water guns and wearing matching t-shirts. He also leaves four sisters: Dorie Sweeney and her husband Jim, Diana Henderson, Debbie Sherman and her husband Dave, and Dawn Emmerich and her husband Bob. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins will also miss him.
He was predeceased by his parents and his step-daughter Sarah Noll.
Chuck was a nature lover who enjoyed camping, hiking, and kayaking. He loved to spend time in the White Mountains and at the Maine Coast. He was often found watching the birds and doing crossword puzzles. He especially liked anything about zombies; his favorite television show was the “Walking Dead”. His gentle nature and kind heart ensure that he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. “The body dies but the spirit that transcends it cannot be touched by death” – Ramana Maharshi.
Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH from 1 – 3 pm on Saturday (Aug. 5). A brief service will be held at 3:00pm. For those friends who are not able to make the visiting hours, there will be a Celebration of Chuck’s life beginning at 4:30 pm at 389 Unity Stage Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, 14 Tremont Street, Claremont, NH 03743.
