CLAREMONT, NH–Dr. Alicia Harvey-Smith, president of River Valley Community College, is resigning from the college and will transition to a new position this fall. CCSNH Chancellor Ross Gittell accepted Harvey-Smith’s resignation Monday, August 22. In thanking Harvey-Smith for her service, Gittell noted several accomplishments of her three-year tenure, citing expanded workforce training partnerships with business and industry, progress in fundraising initiatives, and heightened visibility and support within the community. Important capital improvements been made to the main campus in Claremont and the college’s academic center in Keene. The college successfully moved forward with a new academic center in Lebanon, NH, to expand access within its service area, and revitalized a nursing program that has now earned national accreditation.
Harvey-Smith will be moving on to assume the position of Executive Vice Chancellor at Lone Star College in Houston, TX. She said she is grateful for her experiences leading River Valley. “I truly believe RVCC has tremendous potential and is critical to the communities it serves. I have enjoyed working with and on behalf of its faculty, staff and students and the communities that we serve, “ she said. “The higher education landscape is dynamic, challenging, and contains many opportunities to advance institutions and support student success. I believe I will leave River Valley well-positioned to continue to offer life-changing opportunities to students in western New Hampshire, to support economic growth in the region, and to forward the community college mission statewide.”
