Brian Karl Bogle, 79, died October 4, 2017, at the Sullivan County Nursing Home. He was the only child born to Kenneth and Sadie (Johnson) Bogle. Brian graduated from Stevens High School in 1956 and from Keene Teachers College in 1960. He completed his Masters of Education at Bates College and Dartmouth College.
On June 6, 1959, he married the former Nancy Rawson at the First Baptist Church (now Grace River) in Claremont.
In 1962, he began his teaching career at the Claremont Junior High School, teaching 8th grade history. He held that position for 32 years. During his time at the Junior High, he started the Junior High School baseball program.
For 20 years he was a Vermont football official and was also a Babe Ruth coach and baseball umpire. He was an avid sports fan of all the New England sports teams. He was also a fan of racecar driver Richard Petty.
Brian was a member of Grace River for over 60 years. He has served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and up until his illness, he was the moderator for many years.
He was a trustee at the Fiske Free Library.
After retiring from teaching, Brian and his wife bought the Corner Book Shop in 1994. They owned the store for 10 years before closing it in 2004. In his retirement, he worked at Staples.
Brian is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy. He is also survived by his daughter, Karen Leahy, her husband Mike and their children Brittany and Tyler, as well as Mike’s son Jason and his wife Wendy; his son Scott and his wife Debbie and Scott’s children Josh Lambert and his wife Paige and Courtney Bogle, as well as Debbie’s son Tory; son Peter and his partner Steve Bertram. He is also survived by his niece Betty Hilliard, her husband Rene Rodriguez and their sons Duncan and Jonathan, as well as many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother, Gladys Ring Bogle, and his brother-in law and sister-in-law, Francis and Doris Hilliard.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace River Church with Pastor Scott Kearns officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately after the service. Graveside committal services will be held prior to the service at 10:30 at the West Claremont Burying Grounds.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Sullivan County Nursing Home Stearns 3 and especially Eddie Rodriguez for the wonderful care shown to Brian while he was a resident there.
