Angelo C. Nestor, 88, dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at his home. He was reunited with his Queen, the love of his life, Stella (Polizou) Nestor.
Angelo was born on May 31, 1931 in Somerville MA. He was the son of Charles W. and Maria (Panayeotopoulos) Nestor (ides). He was a 1950 graduate of Somerville High School. Angelo joined the United States Air Force after graduation. He was a Detective Sergeant/Military Police from 1950 to 1954. His incredible 62 year love story began when he met the love of his life in 1952 and married July 25, 1954. Together they raised three beautiful and loving daughters. In Angelo’s earlier years, he worked for his father-in-law, Arthur Polizou, at Parisian Cleaners in Claremont, NH, where he started his career in sales by knocking on doors and establishing a pick-up and drop-off delivery service. He worked at the Claremont Paper Mill for a couple of years before becoming a salesman and delivery driver for Holsum Bakery from 1960 – 1964. In 1965 he joined New York Life Insurance Company and became an extremely accomplished business and insurance planner for over 50 plus years. He established records with the company that have not been matched or beat to this day. Angelo was a past President and member of the Twin State Valley Underwriters for many years. He was a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table from 1968 to 2020. He was a Life Council Member and a recipient of the National Quality Award.
He was a member of the ODD Fellows, the Moose Club and a Lifetime Member of the American Legion. He was a past President and Director of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Newport, NH. He was a member of the HROC, Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church. He was one of the original directors of the Claremont Opera House and very instrumental in the first fundraiser, a beauty pageant to fund the start of the restoration project of the Claremont Opera House. He was a past director of the Claremont Senior Center and the Claremont Chamber of Commerce. Angelo served as the CubMaster for the Boy Scouts in Claremont for many years. He was an active participant in the MooseHeart Fund Jamborees. Angelo also coached his daughter’s basketball teams at the JSL, Junior Sports League. Angelo was the King of Fundraising. He sponsored numerous auctions, dances, beauty pageants, jamborees and other fundraising events in assisting many organizations over the years with fundraising events. Anyone who asked him for assistance, he assisted without reservation! Angelo may have been a Somerville native, but he grew deep roots in Claremont. He absolutely loved the Claremont community and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make Claremont an attractive community to live and bring up a family. Angelo was well known for his love of family, friends and his clients. He loved people and being with them! He will be forever remembered for his infectious smile, laughter, amazing hugs and infectious zest for life! Anyone who knew him, felt his love and affection.
Angelo is survived by his three daughters, Maria Nestor Smith, Coula (Vasiliki) Nestor Wood and her husband Adam Wood, and Elaine A. Nestor and her wife Karen A. Burton. He was a devoted Papou (grandfather) to his five grandsons, AJ(Arthur James) Nestor Smith and wife Kaitlyn Smith, Noah A. Nestor Wood, Nickolas C. O’Brien, Zachary A. O’Brien and Addison C. Nestor Wood. He was also a ProPapou (great grandfather) to his great grandson Brayden Alan Smith. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, a sister in law Cleo Nestor, a brother in law George Polizou and his wife Phyllis Polizou.
Angelo was predeceased by his parents Charles W. Nestor and Maria (Panayeotopoulos) Nestor(ides), his loving wife Stella (Polizou) Nestor, his siblings Nick Nestor, William Nestor(wife Mary Nestor), Katherine (Nestor) Smerlas (husband Peter Smerlas and a son-in-law Alan R. Smith.
Angelo had so many loving caregivers over the years who assisted with his wish to remain in his home. You all have a special place in his heart and our family. A very special thank you to Dr. Barbara Lazar, Catherine Amarante, RN, Lake Sunapee VNA and Hospice and Kelly Crotto and her loving caregivers/Comfortable Living Homecare. We were blessed to have you caring for Angelo to the very end! You are all angels here on Earth for the care that you give. A very special thank you to his two grandsons who made it possible for Angelo to start his healthcare journey in his own home, Nickolas C. O’Brien and his twin brother Zachary A. O’Brien. It was definitely a labor of love to the highest degree!
Because of Covid 19 we are unable to have a public service and or gathering. The service for Angelo may be viewed on YouTube at The Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church Claremont, NH (HROC.org) with Fr. Andrew Trevogbov, officiating, on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at 5 PM. Burial and graveside committal service will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Angelo C. Nestor’s name to the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church at 99 Sullivan Street in Claremont, NH 03743.
