On July 22 at approximately 6:28 p.m., Trooper Noah Sanctuary attempted to stop a 2002 Nissan Sentra for a motor vehicle violation, reported the NH State Police Troop C. The vehicle initially accelerated in an attempt to get away from Sanctuary, but soon caught up to traffic at which time it pulled over. Sanctuary exited his cruiser and gave the driver verbal commands; however, at that time the vehicle fled from the traffic stop, continuing northbound on Route 12, Walpole, NH. After traveling a short distance, the vehicle attempted to make a turn onto River Road in Walpole; however, it was unable to negotiate the turn and proceeded over and down an embankment where it crashed. The two occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot into an adjacent wooded area. A State Police K-9 was deployed to the scene. Shortly thereafter, Jonathan L. Grady, 18, of Vernon, VT, and Tanner Walden, 18, of Brattleboro, VT, were spotted in the woods by an assisting Walpole officer and were eventually apprehended and detained by Walpole and State Police. Grady was identified as the driver and was arrested and charged with Disobeying an Officer, Conduct After an Accident, Misuse of Plates and Unregistered Vehicle. Walden was found to have sustained a minor injury as a result of the crash. He was released without charges and was transported to Cheshire Medical Center by the Walpole Ambulance, said NHSP.
