Born in New Jersey, Tom moved to Ascutney with his family in 1973 and lived there for 45 years. He served on the Claremont police force and worked several years for Warner Cable. He then joined his wife Elsie in a real estate appraisal business, Gernand Associates. They worked together for over 20 years until they both retired in 2009.
Tom became a dedicated member of the Volunteer Fire Department shortly after moving to Ascutney. He earned the rank of captain, serving in that role from 1980 to 1995. He earned lifetime membership 2000 and remained active with the department, issuing burning permits until the day before he passed.
Tom is survived by his wife Elsie of Ascutney, daughter Patricia of Helena MT, and son Thomas of Nantucket, MA. He is also survived by his brothers Gerard Heiser, Chris Heiser, and John Heiser, all of New Jersey.

An informal celebration of life will be held at a later date.
