Rita E. Bergeron, 96, formerly of Claremont, NH, passed away on April 3, 2019, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Rita Exzelia Bergeron was born in Claremont on January 25, 1923, to Raoul Arthur Bergeron and Corona Brouillard Bergeron. She graduated from Stevens High School, and then was employed in Claremont at the Gaudreau Furniture Company and Sullivan Machine Company.
In 1945 Rita left Claremont and found work at the Navy Department in Washington D.C. Being needed by her family, however, she returned to Claremont in 1946 and worked at Montgomery Wards and then at Lambert Oil Co. Later she was able to return to Washington, DC, where she worked for the Federal Renegotiation Board for a number of years.
After retirement, she came back to Claremont, and bought a house where she lived with her sister Jeannette Bergeron and her mother Corona for a number of years. Since 2017 she had lived at Cedar Hill Continuing Care Community in Windsor VT, where she had her own apartment. While there, she enjoyed going on outings with other residents, playing cards and doing arts and crafts.
Rita leaves behind two nephews, John Lambert and Louis Lambert, and a niece, Marie Mason, and their families.
Visiting hours will be Friday, April 12th from 5-7 pm at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Central Street on Saturday, April 13th at 10 am, with burial following at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A buffet luncheon and reception will follow at the Common Man Restaurant.
