Joseph Andrew Manning, 94, formerly of Kenyon Street in Claremont, NH, died Wednesday (May 4, 2016) at the home of his son and daughter in law.
He was born in Hyde Park, MA, on April 28, 1922, the son of Joseph and Marion (Silverling) Manning and had been a longtime Claremont resident. Joseph was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He had been employed as a draftsman by Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor, VT, retiring in 1984. He then became employed as a draftsman by Bomar Foundry in Charlestown, NH, for 11 years.
He was the widower of Susan (Sawin) Manning whom he married on June 26, 1955; she died on February 12, 2011. He was a member of the Circle 8 Square Dancers. Joseph enjoyed spending time at his summer camp on Rocky Bound Pond in Croydon, NH.
Members of his family include two sons, Paul A. Manning and his wife, Celeste, Deering, NH; Chester S. Manning, Covington, GA, a sister, Eleanor Magill, Claremont, NH, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, James P. Manning and a sister, Barbara Eggenberger.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street, Claremont, NH with the Rev. Priscilla Hull, officiating. Committal followed in Union Cemetery.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Sullivan County Humane Society, 14 Tremont Street, Claremont, NH 03743.
