John W. Ricker, 85, of Park Avenue in Claremont, NH, died at his home surrounded by his children, on Sunday (November 12, 2017) following a period of failing health.
He was born in Vershire, VT, on July 21, 1932, the son of George W. and Mabel (Shearer) Ricker and had been a longtime Claremont resident. He was a veteran of the US Army. John held many jobs during his lifetime, which included working in the copper mines, his family farm which later led to John working for different farms over the years. He later worked for Mr. Ellis at Dartmouth Woolen Mill and Harvey Hill at Claremont Paper Mill. John drove bus for the Claremont School District for 16 years and retired from Claremont Paper Mill. He enjoyed hunting, traveling back roads, dancing, playing cards and sitting in his garage while smoking his pipe, watching the daily goings on in the neighborhood and waving to all his neighbors. On October 25, 1953 he married the former Jean Pushee, she predeceased him on April 8, 1988.
Members of his family include a son, David G. Ricker, Claremont, NH; two daughters, Kathie M. Powers and her husband, Duane, Plainfield, NH; Karen S. Gould and her husband, Thomas, Newport, NH; six grandchildren, Spencer Powers, Crystal Rediker and her husband, Keith, their children, Holden, Levi, Shiloh, Kelton, Lyric, Heather J. Kelley, her children Makayla, Rileigh, Hunter, Tara S. Bailey and her husband, Cory, their daughter, Libby Jean, Alicia Murphy, her daughter, Brianna, Stephanie Bergeron and her husband, Kenny and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Franklin Ricker and his wife, Eva and a sister, Dorothea Rhodes and her husband, Wilmer “Dusty”.
Funeral services will be held at the Roy Funeral Home, 93 Sullivan Street Claremont, NH on Friday (Nov. 17) with Pastor Allen Burns of the Christ Community Church in Plainfield, NH, officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Roy Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 pm.
